At Cakabakery, we’ve never met a cookie we didn’t like. When we learned that today was National Cookie Day we leaped for joy! After all if presidents, flags and high-fives get their own day, why not the cookie. Cookies are a moment of warmth on a frosty winter night, a nostalgic token of family and, perhaps most of all, a tasty bite of memory evoking wonder. Here’s to you, oh cookie! We love you today and every day!

Guess what we just cooked up? Cakabakery Gift Cards! We like collaborating with local businesses. We have Rowster Coffee making our signature blend ($16/#/wholebean). We have GR Bagel bring us fresh goodness daily ($2/all flavors) and so on. When it came to creating our gift cards we knew just who to turn to for help. Sarah Ponce of Woodzii, of course! Sarah makes wonderful items of real wood/veneer, all 100% sustainably harvested… naturally.

This lady is so fresh, she doesn’t even have a website or Facebook page yet. I’m guessing she’ll be famous soon enough. We’ve created greeting cards with Sarah also with simple messages like, “Shindig” and “Tidings” for the holiday season and beyond. Stay tuned for more on that front.

Now, come buy a gift card at Cakabakery or we’ll send them to you or a loved-one anywhere in the world. Any denomination, $10 to $50 on a single card. Give the gift they really want… an experience, a treat, a break, a moment.

*Order Up! pals!

Hello all! It’s that time again… Time to give thanks for all we have and to all those who make life more meaningful (and more delicious).

Hey! I just thought of something… It’s not to late to order your Thanksgiving Pie from Cakabakery. Imagine this…

The feast is over, the dishes await. But what’s this? The pie is all ready to go? Say what? No hot oven after the meal. No need to continue your endless task. That glorious pie is already perfectly perched on the sideboard nestled among the wreckage of what once was a lovely display. “Dessert is served, all”, you’ll chime. “I’ll take mine with whip”.

Let us do the heavy lifting this year. Order your pie before Saturday, Nov. 23rd. Enjoy the holiday, friends. We’re thankful for you. That’s a fact!Best always,

The Cakabakery Team

It’s a brisk Thursday and we couldn’t be happier here at Cakabakery. Of course, we’re happy most days… the cookies make us happy. The custom birthday cakes are a fun surprise every time. Inventing new ways to delight you is fun too. So what has us all in a tizzy today? We’ve been nominated as BEST NEW BUSINESS in GR! AHHH!!!

The Neighborhood Business Association is celebrating new and established local businesses in an event this evening (Thursday, Nov. 7th) at Wealthy Theater. How fun is that. We know it’s you who have made us worthy of nomination. Thanks for the love GR! Wish us luck, all. We’ve got our fingers, toes, legs and eyes crossed… here’s hopin’.

Stay tuned for the results tomorrow. So freakin’ exciting!

We are always happy to delight and surprise you with our windows at Cakabakery. This season we have created a window that will give you a sense of wonder without all the fear. In fact, our theme is, “No Fear”. Check it out on Wealthy Street soon… it will be inhabiting our shop for only a moment more.

Happy Halloween, all! And thanks for a great fall season!

Visit our window soon to see what we have in store for Thanksgiving and the holidays to come. See you soon!

We love variety at Cakabakery. Because we were on FOOD NETWORK’S Cupcake Wars we’re frequently called a “cupcake shop”. That’s sweet! But did you know we create a lot more than cupcakes? This week we featured a range of cookies and truffles ans again, we’d love your take on what we created. This week we made a Chocolate Chip Cookies, No-Bake Cookies, Butter Cookies in all shapes sizes and flavor combos and also… my favorite, a Hardy Cookie with oats, apricots, cranberries and walnuts. And would you believe, the Hardy Cookie is Gluten Free and Vegan! Yup, safe for all peoples!

Let us know what you think and don’t forget to plan ahead for your next event. Perhaps a cookie bar is in order? Happy tr-eating!

It’s all for you,

Dear Cakabakery insiders,

You know we’re a “custom dessert manufactory” and that we can create desserts, to order, for any occasion. That’s a fact. But we’re now your neighborhood grab-and-go bakery also. We serve our most popular flavors on the daily in our new shop in Eastown, Grand Rapids. What we need from you is your feedback (foodback) on the selection we offer.

Our plan is to provide a variety of cupcake flavors, cookies, cake-pops, cheese cakes (mini) and much more. If you’ve been in, tell us what you liked best. If you’re planning to come in, tell us what you’d hope to see when you arrive. Comment here to tell us what flavors you like best and what new flavors you’d like us to play around with.

Just last week we tested a ginger/peach cupcake, a strawberry/champagne cupcake and blackberry cheesecake-pops. We had such a good reaction from you that we’re eager to try more new flavors… we hope you’re ready to try them too.

Thanks for the feedback, pals! See you in the shop soon!

The time has finally come. The Cakabakery has a new retail location! After years of bringing you custom desserts from our home in Heritage Hill, we’ve finally landed in our new commercial grade bakery/retail store.

We worked hard to change the interior of “the Windmill” store at 1436 Wealthy Street in Eastown from an old-world, European pasta shop to the fresh, Dutch industrialist look it now boasts. Take a look and let us know what you think of the update. Hope to see you soon!
